Installing the Detector Tube in the MR Instrument
The detector tube of the PET insert is installed from the Service End of the MR instrument. The electronic cabinet and the support shell of the PET trolley are used as a mounting tool for installation.
To prepare the PET insert installation, remove all imaging samples, RF coils and a gradient insert if installed from the MR instrument. Make sure that sufficient space at the Service End of the MR instrument is available and that the floor is free of any barriers.
The installation procedure includes the following steps:
- 1.
- Verify that the magnet bore inside the gradient coil is completely cleared.
- 2.
- Verify that the detector tube is secured by the safety belt on the trolley.
- 3.
- Move the PET trolley to the Service End of the MR instrument, unlock the support shell and rotate the shell with the detector tube by 90° to be aligned with the magnet bore.
- 4.
- Push the trolley as close as possible to the Service End of the MR instrument.
- 5.
- Secure the trolley against unexpected movement using the wheeler breaks and open the security belts of the detector tube.
- 6.
- Gently lift and push the user end of the detector tube into the bore.
- 7.
- Hold the tube horizontally aligned and gently slide the it into the bore.
- 8.
- Rotate such that the two bolts at the rear of the gradient coil fit into the corresponding openings at the detector tube.
- 9.
- Fix the detector tube by moderately inflating the pneumatic fixation (pneumofix) using the orange balloon. Do not apply high pressure to the pneumatic fixation.
- 10.
- Unlock the wheels of the trolley and move it aside to allow free access to the bore of the detector tube.
- 11.
- Insert and connect the RF coil; a PET Optimized (PO) RF Coil is recommended.
- 12.
- Recommended: Verify the alignment of PET and MR FOV, see section below.
