Interface for Anesthesia, WAG, Air, Water

Various animal cradles have integrated anesthesia masks to supply anesthetic gas directly to the anesthesia mask. Some also remove Waste Anesthetic Gas (WAG) directly from the anesthesia mask using a separate suction hose. Also, some open animal cradles provide an integrated animal warming by having warm water flow through the cradle base. Closed cradles typically make use of warm air supply and removal. Details are provided in the dedicated sections on animal cradles. The interface description provided below lists the different connections required to support the animal cradles.

For BioSpec/PharmaScan MR instruments with Manual Slider or ManPac/AutoPac animal tables, the interface between the Bruker accessories and the laboratory installation is below the animal table (see 3 in graph):

The interface for the Animal Handling Connections is located at (3) and described in detail below.
In addition, the drawing shows the WAG suction hose from the magnet bore (1) which is connected to the laboratory suction system (2).

For ManPac/AutoPac instruments, connectors (5) and (6) are installed within the ManPac/AutoPac filter plate and the hoses (1)-(4) pass through waveguides.

  • Anesthesia supply and WAG (waste anesthetic gas) removal allows the user to interface anesthesia gas. Supply and WAG removal is routed and connected to the anesthesia mask in the corresponding animal cradle. Commercial isoflurane anesthesia evaporator may be connected. For WAG removal, suction with a negative pressure of at least -0.3 bar is required to obtain a suitable WAG flow of 1-2 liter/minute from the anesthesia mask. Data differ depending on the animal cradle used.
  • Air is used for the Bruker Air Circulation option to provide air to closed animal cradles. In order to have warm air, the Air Circulation option requires as prerequisite the option “water” (Body Temperature Conditioning System) described below since it generates the warm water for the water/air heat exchanger located in the animal cradle interface. The Air Circulation option only circulates the air which needs to be warmed by the “water” option.
  • Water is used for the Bruker water based Body Temperature Conditioning option where warm water is supplied either to the water/air heat exchanger located in the animal cradle interface or directly to animal cradles or animal heating covers (warming blankets) where water flows through. Heating covers are typically used for open animal cradles.
