Operating the CryoProbe

 

CAUTION
Danger of injury due cold gas burns

Inadequate handling of the CryoProbe may result in a breakage of the vacuum chamber and the egression of cold Helium gases. Cold gas burns may occur from freezing on cold surfaces.

  1. Handle coil head carefully.
  1. Take care not to stumble across the MRI CryoProbe transfer line.
  1. Never over-bend the interconnection (minimum radius 30 cm) to avoid breakage of the cold Helium lines.
  1. Always store the cold head in a safe place and use the supplied protection cap when not in use (e.g. in a dedicated holder at the wall).
  1. Use only the supplied dedicated animal cradle to avoid damage to the coil head.
  1. Do not enter the animal cradle into the coil head outside the magnet. In order to check the setup, a mouse position gauge is supplied for checks prior to entering the magnet and coil head.
  1. Never open the Helium transfer line coupling at the preamplifier or Cooling Unit in cold operation state.
  1. Regularly check the status of the equipment in the CryoTool software and the equipment itself to identify such damage, such as gas hiss or iced parts.
  1. In case of a damage of the coil head or the Helium lines, wear protective gloves and safety eye glasses.

Danger of eye injury due to loose debris

Accidental dropping or hitting of the coil head may result in a breakage of the vacuum chamber and loose debris may cause serious injury.

  1. Handle coil head carefully.
  1. Take care not to stumble across the MRI CryoProbe transfer line.
  1. Always wear safety eye glasses.
CAUTION
Danger of injury due to cold gas burns and damage to the CryoProbe

Inadequate installation and storage of the CryoProbe body may result in a breakage of the vacuum chamber at the coil and not at the body’s relief valve. Egression of cold Helium gases and cold gas burns may occur from freezing on cold surfaces.

  1. Do not obstruct the relief valve (drop off plate) at the CryoProbe body.
  1. Keep off close proximity of the relief valve.
  1. While vacuum is present, do not store the CryoProbe body such that the relief valve is obstructed.
