About This Manual

Before starting any work, personnel must read the manual thoroughly and understand its contents. Compliance with all specified safety and operating instructions, as well as local work safety regulations, are vital to ensure safe operation.

The figures shown in this manual are designed to be general and informative and may not represent the specific Bruker model, component or software/firmware version you are working with. Options and accessories may or may not be illustrated in each figure.

This document provides operating instructions for linear and quadrature transmit-receive MRI CryoProbes™ as well as for array receive-only CryoProbes™. Where indicated and depending on the type of coil, some procedures may not apply. In addition to CryoProbes™ operating at the 1H resonance frequency, CryoProbes™ for other nuclei, such as for example 31P or 13C are available. Their operation is in principle the same as for 1H, extended by the demands for the other nuclei which are not CryoProbe specific. There is no general difference in using the MRI CryoProbe™ for MRI/MRS experiments compared to standard room temperature RF coils.

However, the MRI CryoProbe™ offers a dramatic increase of signal-to-noise by reducing the operating temperature of the coil and the preamplifier. This is established by a closed-cycle cooling system, which controls all functions and guarantees high stability during long operation times.

The topics covered in this manual describe user actions and helpful tips for the routine use of the MRI CryoProbe™. User actions include:

  • Cool-down and warm-up procedures
  • Installation and removal of the centering tube in the magnet bore
  • Installation and removal of the MRI CryoProbe™ coil head in the magnet bore
  • Preparation of the animal on the provided dedicated animal bed
  • Usage of the coil within ParaVision
  • Tuning and matching of the coil
  • Quality Assurance
