Operation
This chapter describes the workflow when operating the ATS. Although the ATS has been designed following a risk analysis, residual risks remain mainly by the movement of the drive train and the rotation of the spindles during movement. The maximum force while moving is controlled and limited and the drive train will release automatically a blockage by reversing the moving direction. In addition, the speed of the drive train is limited to 50 mm/s and slows down to 33 mm/s when approaching potential shearing locations.
Read and follow the safety information given below and throughout this manual.

Risk of personal injury or damage of the ATS by improper use or modifications The ATS is designed to support dedicated animal cradles with a maximum total weight for cradle and animal of 2.5 kg. The ATS is operated via the touchscreen and does not require a user interaction at the ATS itself. - •
- Observe the maximum load capacity of the corresponding animal cradle.
- •
- Do not attach equipment that is incompliant with the intended use.
- •
- Do not modify the ATS or disable any safety switches.
- •
- Always check for available space prior to moving the ATS and avoid blockage in all cases.
- •
- Do not push, pull, block, or interact in any way with the moving parts while in operation.
- •
- Avoid each kind of mechanical influence on animal cradles and ATS Cradle Connector, like e. g. bumps or shakes, which could damage the ATS and/or the sample.
- •
- Do not operate the ATS with protective covers removed.
|
The residual risk of personal injury is further to be reduced by wearing adequate work clothes and a hairnet where appropriate.
| | |
Personal injury by drawing-in, entanglement, or catching. Moving parts (e. g. spindle) may draw-in long hair, loose fitting clothes or for example necklaces. - •
- Wear tight-fitting work clothes.
- •
- Remove necklaces, jewelry.
- •
- Use a hairnet.
- •
- In case of emergency, press Emergency Stop and move ATS manually by turning the spindle manually.
|
In case of emergency, the movement of the drive train can be stopped immediately at the red button in the user panel or by pressing the Emergency Stop located on the preparation table.
Emergency Stop and related safety notices to stop the movement of the drive train immediately. Press button in case of emergency and turn button clockwise for release.

Risk of getting Animal Cell Extension stuck in the magnet. Never move the ATS into the magnet without animal cell connected. The handle of the animal cell extension and locking mechanism may move in but not out any more! - •
- Always connect an animal cradle and close the connector correctly.
- •
- Check whether connector is closed correctly so that it does not open unintendedly.
